How to Rock Your Lazy Days

Everyone, even the most accomplished fashionistas, have those days where you just want to wear your sweats all day. Well stylebandits, I have great news: it is possible to have those comfortable (& comforting!) pieces without sacrificing your unique stylishness! Thanks to the kicked-up-a-notch sweatshirts and embellished sneakers many brands have been coming out with, you can have your lazy-girl style cake and eat it too.

Having one or two embellished sweatshirts in my closet has seriously made life easier – on those lazy days where you still have to be presentable I can just throw one on with my comfiest jeans and I’m ready to go. Picking shoes and tops that have small embellishments also mean no accessorizing necessary, which is always a plus if you’re feeling lazy or short on time.

What do you think of this look? How do you rock your lazy days with style?

Fall Favorites

I hope everybody has been enjoying this colorful Autumn! I love shopping (no surprise there / sorry Mom), especially when there are so many new styles out for new seasons. However, I am on a saving money kick as of lately, so I’ve been limiting myself to (online) window-shopping. Score one for self control! Anyway, I’ve decided to share with you some of my favorite things I’ve been finding (and trying so hard not to buy!) from some of my favorite stores. Maybe you’ll find some gems and buy them and I can live vicariously through you (please)!

These two sweaters are both from H&M & I love them. They both have short sleeves, which is fun & the details on both of them are playful and add a little bit of interest. They would be perfect with darker colored jeans (think black, maroon, dark green). The details on these also mean you don’t even have to find a necklace to wear, so getting dressed in the morning is that much faster!

Get these sweaters here & here.

Clearly, fall is all about sweaters & this fuzzy pink sweater is great. I actually am loving the whole ensemble here, minus the shoes. The punchy pink is so fun with the polka dot midi. It actually makes me feel like this color/pattern combo should never be without each other. This outfit could be casual enough for class, work, meeting up with friends, or it could be easily dressed up for fancier occasions.

Okay, I am obsessed with this kimono. The red velvet and floral print is so dramatic and romantic – perfect for fall & can carry into winter. It’s a little bit victorian, a little bit bohemian. This is definitely a great statement piece. I cannot get enough of this one.

Talk about statement pieces! This little jacket comes with its own attitude people. The neon green is so unexpected & looks amazing with the edgier pieces. I would totally rock this over black jeans or a dress with a chunkier metal necklace and boots. This almost reminds me of the iconic Chanel suit, but less expensive and way cooler.

I’m currently having an art-deco, 1920s obsession, which is one of the reasons I love this blouse. It’s simple, but the embellishment is so pretty. Not only is this slightly art-deco, but the beading also reminds me a little bit of spider webs, which is fitting for this time of year (hello, Halloween!).

Continuing with my 1920s obsession – this party dress is amazing! It isn’t too theme-y, but it’s like an ode to the era with the art-deco patterns and sparkle. Because the shape is modern, it wouldn’t even be overkill to dress this up with 1920s inspired bling, maybe even a killer headpiece (that hat is killing me, but not in a good way).

When I look for party dresses, I’m always drawn to fun textures and shapes. The feathering on this LBD is exactly that! I actually think this dress would look awesome with much girlier makeup – pale pinks and shimmery whites. This would be an adorable outfit for, say, a fall birthday or Thanksgivukkah party…

I’m obviously very into reds and velvet this season, so these two dresses definitely caught my eye. The dark velvet dress is so rich and the shoulder cutouts add that extra detail that makes it stand out. This bright red dress is like the perfect party dress in my book – its got the texture, the print & the fun, full skirt. This dress happens to be from Forever21, which means its on the cheap-side. I’m all for that, clearly, but with a dress like this, I would be a little careful – I bought a similar dress with cute tulle from there a long time ago, and it looked very cheap. That being said, its not a guarantee that all dresses like this will be the same way.

I love jeans, and I like finding ones that go beyond the average black and blue. This khaki green pair is great for fall & the detail on the bottom is unique. These actually came in black too, and I couldn’t decide which I liked better, but I have enough black already.

These faux tweed & leather pants are AMAZING. I have no other words to describe them… and they are on sale! If you’re really feeling like livin’ on the wild side, these pants would look insane with the neon green jacket from above.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed seeing some of my favorite fall picks & got some seasonal inspiration!

Beetlejuice Pants

I’ve talked about this many times before, but I think it is one of the most important things to remember about style, so I’m gonna talk about it some more – there shouldn’t be rules in fashion. Finding your own personal style is about discovering what you like, what looks good on you and what doesn’t, and the only way to do that is to try new things all the time. Personal style and preferences can change and I think they should. For me, my style changes on the daily. One day, I may be super into the boho thing. The next I may edge-it-up. Another day I might combine the two, and other days I’m tired so my style is yoga pants and Uggs.

The point is, style is something very personal. It is a way to express yourself, so don’t worry about other people’s opinions all the time. If you have a crazy pair of pants that make you feel good and you can wear them with confidence, you strut your stuff in those crazy pants!

Recently, I bought myself a pair of crazy pants and was struggling trying to decide if I liked them or not. I decided to wear them one day, sort of to test drive them, and I asked my mom what she thought. She said they looked like Beetlejuice pants. I was running late, so I kept them on anyway.

Later on, my hairdresser said she loved my pants and even later on, so did my dad! Just goes to show opinions are everywhere, so the only one that ever really matters (when it comes to style at least) is yours.

These pants aren’t going to be a staple in my wardrobe, but my test drive was a fun little experiment. Plus, my mom and I came up with some great possible halloween costumes.

Falling in Love with Fall

I love fall. Every time it rolls around – with its orange and red leaves, decorated porches, pumpkin spice everything – I feel so cozy and happy. And then there is Halloween. Don’t even get me started on Halloween. I LOVE Halloween. Maybe its because my last year of college is really like having to face a big ugly bully every day, but this fall has been like a source of comfort somehow. I’m hoping it will help reinvigorate me for the rest of this semester!

Recently, my boyfriend, best friend and I went apple & pumpkin picking. I’ve never had so many apples in my life, but let me tell you about these particular apples – they could have literally been picked straight out of Snow White. They were so damn good (my bff will vouch for this). Anyway, I was so excited and overtaken by all the wonderful fall-ness, that when we came back home I actually attempted to make apple cider from scratch. I used about eight apples, an orange, cinnamon, all spice, some pumpkin spice tea, lemon juice and honey whiskey. You throw everything into a big pan, cover it all with water and let it boil down (strain when done). It took between 1-2 hours and it tasted AMAZING. I was very happily surprised. If you’re in need of some Autumn comfort, try making this yourself! Not only does it taste fab, but you’ll also feel awesome for making your own cider.

Wow, reliving this cider might be making me drool a little, but moving on.

One of the other reasons I love fall so much is the fact that I can bust out my boot collection! I’m a boot-aholic and not ashamed to say it. My feet are famous for ALWAYS having blisters (I think its because I’m like the Goldie Locks of shoes – everything is either too big or too small), but boots are my go-to comfortable footwear. I also love fall colors. My favorites this season are maroons and brownish-purples (see my nails)! Something I’m really into lately has been mixing girly elements with more edgy or masculine pieces, like my outfit below.

(Not So) Heavy Metals

Recently, my Dad took me out to dinner at this restaurant in the East Village called Dirt Candy (or as my Mom called it, “Dirty Candy”). Let me just tell you – the place is apparently impossible to get reservations at & only seats about fifteen people… and the food is AMAZING. Like, holy crap. Don’t ask questions, don’t think about it, just get yourself a reservation and go!

Anyway, I decided to try something a little bit outside of my regular style that day. I don’t usually go for the plain or geometric metals when I pick out my jewelry, but I tried out Chloe + Isabel’s S-Chain Link Collar Necklace with black skinny jeans and the Shenandoah Tunic from Free People.

I’m glad I went on a whim and threw on the links necklace because it opened me up to trying out styles of jewelry I might not usually go for. I normally would have styled a top like this with a longer, more boho necklace. I think the combo of the boho top with the modern metal necklace turned out cool & unique!

Takeaway lesson: try out unexpected combinations!
