Everything’s Coming Up Roses

I’ve always loved pastels, so I am actually pretty excited that they are everywhere recently! Specifically, pastel pinks are everywhere recently. I love the fact that they are having their moment in the months that are usually reserved for heavy, dark & rich colors. What I love even more, is that pastels are being matched with heavier textures, which makes them definitely cold-weather appropriate. But, what I love even more, is the fun that can be had mixing and matching soft, floaty feminine pastels with harsher and heavier Fall/Winter gear.

I love the floaty pink top I’m wearing – you can find it at Forever21 – it’s very girly, but less in-your-face than some other pink styles I’ve been seeing around lately.

However, if we’re talkin’ in-your-face pink, I’ll be honest. I am 100% dying for a pastel pink coat. I know, I know, I’m falling for a trend, but just gaze your eyes upon these beauties and try to tell me you wouldn’t wrap yourself up in one of them forever …

Modcloth

You’d think a pink coat would be aggressively girly, but the cool thing about these is that they’re being cut in masculine shapes so they’re a little bit feminine, but also a little bit badass – my favorite way to mix and match!

Would you wear this trend?

Falling in Love with Fall

I love fall. Every time it rolls around – with its orange and red leaves, decorated porches, pumpkin spice everything – I feel so cozy and happy. And then there is Halloween. Don’t even get me started on Halloween. I LOVE Halloween. Maybe its because my last year of college is really like having to face a big ugly bully every day, but this fall has been like a source of comfort somehow. I’m hoping it will help reinvigorate me for the rest of this semester!

Recently, my boyfriend, best friend and I went apple & pumpkin picking. I’ve never had so many apples in my life, but let me tell you about these particular apples – they could have literally been picked straight out of Snow White. They were so damn good (my bff will vouch for this). Anyway, I was so excited and overtaken by all the wonderful fall-ness, that when we came back home I actually attempted to make apple cider from scratch. I used about eight apples, an orange, cinnamon, all spice, some pumpkin spice tea, lemon juice and honey whiskey. You throw everything into a big pan, cover it all with water and let it boil down (strain when done). It took between 1-2 hours and it tasted AMAZING. I was very happily surprised. If you’re in need of some Autumn comfort, try making this yourself! Not only does it taste fab, but you’ll also feel awesome for making your own cider.

Wow, reliving this cider might be making me drool a little, but moving on.

One of the other reasons I love fall so much is the fact that I can bust out my boot collection! I’m a boot-aholic and not ashamed to say it. My feet are famous for ALWAYS having blisters (I think its because I’m like the Goldie Locks of shoes – everything is either too big or too small), but boots are my go-to comfortable footwear. I also love fall colors. My favorites this season are maroons and brownish-purples (see my nails)! Something I’m really into lately has been mixing girly elements with more edgy or masculine pieces, like my outfit below.

Flower Power

Howdy! It’s been a little while guys & I apologize, but things have just been so busy! I hope you’ve all been making lemonade out of the lemons that is this weather! And I hope everyone had a wondrous holiday weekend too!

Anyway, despite the muggyness, today was a bright, flowery day for me – sometimes when the weather isn’t so great, you gotta bring your own sunshine.

Today, I wore two of my favorite items of clothing ever – black skinny jeans (everyone needs to own at least two pairs, in my opinion!) and my favorite ever floral kimono. I don’t even remember where my jeans are from, probably Topshop or Asos, and I got my kimono from one of my go-to boutiques, LF, years ago. I love Topshop’s jeans, they are so comfy and much less expensive than their designer friends.

IMG_2240

Talk about double-flower-power! I chose this Chloe & Isabel flower necklace to top off my outfit. It was just the right accent for the bright kimono because it isn’t too big or too small (do I sound like Goldilocks yet?)

IMG_2245

You may be thinking “Who wears a kimono in this kinda heat?!” Have no fear, though, I am not crazy! My beloved jacket is actually paper-thin. It’s like a silky, chiffon-y cloud wrapped around your body! No wonder why I love it so much :).

What’s your favorite item of clothing & why? Tell me all about it in the comment section!

(I apologize again for some of the photo quality – I’ve been lazy and have been using my phone as my camera for too long…)

Back In Action

I’m Back, fresh off a six hour drive from Maine! We spent five days in the charming town of Kennebunkport, which apparently is a really popular summer spot for people to visit. If you ever find yourself there – stay in one of the ADORABLE cottages at Cabot Cove. Seriously, our cottage was so cute & perfect we could’ve moved in permanently.

It was lots of fun – we ate a lot of lobster & shrimp… mmm. Our favorite places to eat were Mabel’s, Federal Jack’s and The Tides (kick ass Lobster Roll). Walking around town was really nice too – If anyone has ever been to Carmel-By-The-Sea, CA… Kennebunkport is like the Carmel of the East. Very story-book. There were lots of little shops (very touristy though), and I spent about an hour in The Copper Candle, a cute candle (duh) shop. We also took a day trip into Portland on one of our rainy days. Portland is pretty awesome – there were LOTS of little independent boutiques that we loved. One, Mexicali Blues, was our favorite. I bought a pretty tapestry for our apartment, a star lantern that goes with it and Zach bought a little traveling Buddha. Some of you may know that we have a little fur baby (our kitten)… well she is going to be getting a little furry friend soon (yay!) and so upon my urging, we decided to paint some food and water bowls for our animals. It was really a lot of fun and we can’t wait to see the finished products.

Anyway, since I haven’t posted in a while, I wanted to share a couple of things!

This was my ‘early morning road trip’ look – I clearly have the ‘I just woke up’ face goin’ on here, but I’m wearing the striped blazer that I posted about a little while ago. It was perfect for a long car ride because of the sweatshirt-y material – so comfy. The bag is a good size for long-weekend or shorter trips too & I think its so pretty. I got it from ASOS.

This outfit was from our day trip into Portland. The dress is an old one that I bought years ago from Topshop & the sweater is from Forever21. My feather necklace is, of course, Chloe & Isabel (I tried to zoom in on the photo so you can see how pretty it is 😉 ). I actually got a lot of compliments on it while we were walking around the city!

These are the aforementioned goodies I bought throughout my trip –

Where will you be going this summer? And what will you be wearing!

Cover-Up Season Is Upon Us!

About four years ago, I bought a floral dress at H&M and have been using it as my cover-up every summer since then. Needless to say, when I busted that baby out this weekend, it was sad to see that time was up for my go-to cover-up. Any elasticity that used to exist was now gone and the top would not even stay up. Now, don’t feel bad because I assure you, that thing got SO MUCH usage in the short life it lived, but now I desperately need to find a replacement (especially because I have a beach-y vacation coming up next week!) So, I decided to put together a little somethin’ for those of you who are like me, and believe a good cover-up is a summer staple.

Screen shot 2013-06-02 at 6.31.41 PM

Okay, I’m in love with both of these completely different looks. The cover-up on the left side is from topshop and all of the jewelry is from chloe + isabel. You could obviously go matchy-matchy with the yellow of the pineapples (such a frickin’ adorable print), but I really like the coral/punchy-red of the jewelry pieces I picked out here – it keeps the whole look bright, which as you know is my new thing this summer. The cover-up on the right side is from net-a-porter and again, you know where the jewels are from 😉 . This look is more elegant than the fun, fruity pineapples, but equally colorful. It’s also a bit more of a splurge, but if you’re anything like me, you’ll use it for at least four summers! The hat is from Tommy Bahama; piña colada not included (though encouraged!) Maybe one of these will be my lucky new cover-up!

I also have to say, thanks to my friend Dana who spent the weekend relaxing poolside with me, one of my new favorite summer accessories is this Australian Gold sunscreen/bronzing spray gel.

Screen shot 2013-06-02 at 6.34.05 PM

It has the benefits of being a sunscreen, but I’ve honestly never tanned so well as I did this weekend. I will be bringing this around with me everywhere, plus it smells good! I’ve always said a tan is the best accessory, and now I can have one allll summer, without worrying about burning!
